Deadliest Catch has released emotional behind-the-scenes footage showing deckhand Todd Meadows just days before his tragic death at sea at the age of 25.

The clip, shared on YouTube, features Meadows speaking about his lifelong ambition to work in Alaska while carrying out duties aboard Captain Rick Shelford’s Aleutian Lady. The video was released in his memory following the fatal incident earlier this year.

In the footage, Meadows said, "We are ready to get out there and get fishing," adding, "It's been one of my dreams and goals to make it up here. I’ve been to Alaska a few times, but never to fish, just to vacation and to hang out with family. And everything up here that I have experienced so far is just so much bigger. Everything is scaled up. Smells different, feels different." The star's family previously appealed for the footage recorded of his death not to be be shown.

He soon reflected on his children and the dangers of the job, offering words of encouragement about chasing dreams despite risk.

Meadows said, "There's a lot of risk that comes into it but just want my kids to know that I want them to work toward your dreams and goals." He went on, "'Don't let anything slow you down. Yeah it's gonna be fun. I am just fortunate that I fell in love with it."

According to The Daily Mail, the clip opens with a quote from former US President John F. Kennedy, which reads, "We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea... we are going back from whence we came."

It has previously been confirmed that cameras were rolling when Meadows went overboard in the Bering Sea on February 25, though producers have chosen not to air the footage out of respect for his family.

Investigators say he fell into freezing waters despite a desperate rescue attempt from crew members, including deckhand Trey John Green III, who later described the frantic effort to save him aboard the vessel.

Green previously recalled that a harness failed during the incident as the crew attempted to pull Meadows back onboard, and said they did "everything they could" to reach him in time.

Meadows's death certificate lists the cause of death as 'drowning with probable hypothermia' and 'submersion of body in cold water', according to reports. He was pronounced dead at 5:15pm on February 25 in what officials described as an accident aboard the vessel in the Bering Sea, according to TMZ.

His body was later transported to Anchorage and cremated. He is survived by his wife and three young children. An ongoing Coast Guard investigation is still examining the circumstances of the tragedy, with his family previously calling for answers and "justice" following his death.

Green also described the final moments before Meadows disappeared beneath the water, saying conditions were surprisingly calm at the time despite the extreme danger of the environment.

He claimed that Meadows was in the water for several minutes before being recovered and said he was already showing signs of severe hypothermia when brought aboard, while CPR was performed for around 45 minutes in a failed attempt to revive him.

He added that the incident was captured on multiple cameras as part of filming for the show's 22nd season.
