The "First Man" star is blasting back into space in the scifi adventure "Project Hail Mary," based on Andy Weir's bestselling novel. And even though we have a new best picture in the Oscar canon, we think this cosmic spectacular might be a contender for next year. Ryan Gosling is always in for a good time, be it in Barbie Land or a whole other solar system.

The "First Man" star is blasting back into space in the sci-fi adventure "Project Hail Mary," based on Andy Weir's best-selling novel. And even though we have a new best picture in the Oscar canon, we think this cosmic spectacular might be a contender for next year. Check that out in theaters as well as "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come," which brings "Lord of the Rings" dude Elijah Wood into the horror comedy franchise. And for those feeling the need to stream, the English gang of "Peaky Blinders" is back for a Netflix movie continuation of the TV period drama.

Now on to the good stuff:

Buckle up for Ryan Gosling's mission to save mankind in 'Project Hail Mary'

Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) is recruited by Eva Stratt (Sandra Hüller) when the sun begins to dim and an apocalyptic ice age seems imminent in "Project Hail Mary."

"Project Hail Mary" the book was excellent, and I'm happy to report that the movie version is just as good. The film stars Ryan Gosling as a middle-school science teacher who ends up on a mission to save mankind that strands him in space by himself. Thankfully, he makes a new alien best friend – with adorable, grown-up "E.T." vibes – and they become ride-or-die buddies in a fantastic tale of human resilience and interstellar bromance. (Peep my ★★★★ review.)

I chatted with Gosling about "Hail Mary," his kids' input for his nerdy look, and shooting this as well as "Star Wars: Starfighter." "They're both the kind of films I've waited my whole life to make," he says. We also discussed his on-screen alien BFF Rocky, who required his own "glam squad," while books reporter Clare Mulroy met up with author Andy Weir for a talk about the new adaptation and making science entertaining.

Stream Cillian Murphy's 'Peaky Blinders' return in Netflix's 'Immortal Man'

Cillian Murphy returns as former English gangster Tommy Shelby in "Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man."

Here's a nuclear hot take: Cillian Murphy's Oscar-winning role in "Oppenheimer" isn't even his best work. No, that would be his six seasons as violent and haunted English gangster Tommy Shelby on "Peaky Blinders." You can stream the series on Netflix as well as the new movie continuation "The Immortal Man," which finds Tommy dealing with his criminal son Duke (Barry Keoghan), who now heads up the Peaky Blinders and is working with Nazis. "Tommy Shelby was never going to ride away into the sunset," screenwriter Steven Knight says, talking with TV reporter Bryan Alexander about who returns for the film (and who doesn't), the real-life inspiration and a potential TV revival.

"Immortal Man" is one of several fresh flicks on your fave streaming services, and here's a list of what to watch including "Wicked: For Good" and "Anniversary."

See Elijah Wood as the devil's advocate in 'Ready or Not 2: Here I Come'

The Lawyer (Elijah Wood) makes sure everybody knows the rules of a dangerous game in the horror comedy sequel "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come."

Horror is definitely having a moment. Just look at the Oscars, where "Sinners" won four awards, "Frankenstein" picked up three and Amy Madigan snagged a supporting actress trophy for playing a witchy "Weapons" villain. Elijah Wood has noticed, too. I talked with him about his new movie, the horror comedy sequel "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come," but also about how, with the likes of "Mandy" and others, his production company SpectreVision has been a part of scary movies' new "golden" era.

When SpectreVision started in 2010, "there weren't a lot of horror films being made that it felt like they were taking their subject matter seriously. That has since totally changed," says Wood, who also discusses his "incredibly mysterious" character in "Ready or Not 2" – a lawyer for a devilishly supernatural being – and if he's returning for the next "Lord of the Rings" movie.

Even more goodness to check out! -

Meet the young Mystery Inc. gang in Netflix's live-action "Scooby-Doo" show. (I anxiously await the casting of Scrappy-Doo and the Ghost of Captain Cutler.)

"They Will Kill You" star Patricia Arquette wants to start a candy cult. Here for it.

Sneak a peek at the first "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" trailer, which features Tom Holland's Marvel webslinger as well as the Punisher, the Scorpion and an unhulked Hulk.

The new "Dune: Part 3" trailer is also here and Robert Pattinson looks crazy.

And some final thoughts for this awards season: The Michael B. Jordan Oscar win was amazing, but "Sinners" should have been best picture.
