The Detroit Lions will try to find a new figure to oversee their offense after their initial plan to replace Ben Johnson went awry.
The Lions on Tuesday announced they had parted ways with offensive coordinator John Morton.
Lions coach Dan Campbell took over play-calling duties from Morton in early November amid some turbulence from the unit.
Detroit finished the season ranked fourth in scoring and fifth in yards per game.

After earning the NFC's No. 1 playoff seed last season, the Lions missed the postseason entirely and finished last in the NFC North at 9-8 this year.
Campbell said Monday he was unsure whether he would continue calling plays in 2026.
"I don't know exactly where I'm at with that yet," Campbell said. "I mean, I guess one of the good things if I did do that, you don't have to worry about somebody else leaving. You don't have to worry about your play-caller leaving. So that would be one of the perks of it."
Campbell will be on his fourth offensive coordinator of his tenure as he embarks on a sixth season with the Lions. Johnson, who oversaw the league's highest-scoring attack in 2024, took the head-coaching job with the Chicago Bears last offseason.
