A reporter was filming a news story in New Zealand earlier this week when she was struck in the face by a seagull, all of which was caught on camera.

But she responded to the hit — and resulting cut to her face — with humor.

On Tuesday, Dec. 2, Jessica Tyson was shooting a segment about fast fashion in Auckland when the bird flew into her face, aided by strong winds, she shared on Facebook.

Tyson, a former Miss World New Zealand, was about to film a second take when the impact from the bird jolted her face to the side.

In the video she posted, she turns away and puts her hands on her face.

"Holy s—," she says in the clip.

She had been filming the fashion industry story for Te Ao with Moana, a current affairs show that reviews news with a Māori perspective. (The Māori are the indigenous people of New Zealand.)

After the incident, the film crew rushed to check on her.

"You alright?" a man asks her in the video, which she also posted on Instagram.

"Yeah, oh my God," Tyson responds as she realizes her eye was hurt.

"You're bleeding," a colleague tells her.

"Am I?" Tyson asks, before touching the side of her face. Dramatic music then shifts to an image of Tyson with a cut on the side of her eye, with blood on her face.

"It's beak or claws must have hit me because I was left with a scar above my left eye, below my eyebrow — just missing my eyeball, luckily," Tyson wrote on Facebook. "Afterwards, the bird looked fine and rejoined their friends close by. I rushed to a nearby corporate office in downtown Auckland to clean up before continuing filming."

On Instagram, she wrote of the incident, "The commitment to the job is real!"

Hundreds of fans commented on social media, either expressing concern or responding with lightheartedness.

"Omg Jess! You poor thing," wrote user on Instagram. "Not me thinking, 'Omg it's a sign.' "

Tyson was crowned Miss World New Zealand in 2018.

Tyson agreed.

She shared that she also recently cut her finger and hurt her arm after falling off her bike. "Sooooo weird!" wrote the reporter (who did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for further comment).

"We did some karakia [a Māori prayer] to try make sure it doesn't happen again!" she wrote.

She told another fan that getting struck in the face and the impact was "the craziest part" of the whole experience.

"All is well now, though," she added. "I can understand why people are so afraid of birds!"
