Liam Neeson is denying being part of the anti-vaccine movement, after lending his voice to a documentary that questions the efficacy of the medical advance.
The "Taken" actor, 73, helps narrate "Plague of Corruption," a new film based on a book of the same name. The book was co-authored by Judy Mikovits – a former research scientist who has made several since-debunked medical claims, including that a bad strain of the flu vaccine caused the COVID-19 virus. Her co-author and executive producer on the film, lawyer Kent Heckenlively, has written several books that claim to unravel large American conspiracies, ranging from cover-ups at CNN to Facebook to the White House.
The foreword for "Plague of Corruption" was authored by current Health and Human Services Secretary and famed vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy is also interviewed in the film, according to The Guardian.
In a post to X in November, Heckenlively celebrated Neeson's involvement with the film, writing: "Liam Neeson for the win. Aslan in on our side!"
Neeson's reps denied, however, that his choice to narrate signals that he is part of the anti-vax movement – a sector of the American public which believes that vaccines may cause, not cure, illness. Many of their claims have been debunked.
Liam Neeson attends the 26th Annual Spirit of Ireland Gala at Pier 60 on Nov. 7, 202,5 in New York City.
"We all recognize that corruption can exist within the pharmaceutical industry, but that should never be conflated with opposition to vaccines," Neeson's reps said in a statement to the Guardian and Entertainment Weekly. "Liam never has been, and is not, anti-vaccination. His extensive work with Unicef underscores his long-held support for global immunisation and public-health initiatives.
"He did not shape the film's editorial content, and any questions about its claims or messaging should be directed to the producers," the statement said.
USA TODAY has reached out to reps for Neeson for comment.
