New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was critically wounded in a shooting in New York City, per multiple media reports. Boyd was shot in the abdomen and is in critical but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, a police spokesperson told ESPN.
Police say the shooting took place on West 38th Street in Midtown Manhattan at around 2 a.m. ET Sunday. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. ABC7 New York reports that police are looking for a man who fled in a blue BMW.
The relationship between the victim and the suspect is unknown at this time, and authorities are unclear on what happened leading up to the shooting.
In a statement shared with multiple media outlets, the Jets said they are aware of the situation but have no additional comment.
Boyd signed a one-year deal with the Jets this offseason after two seasons with the Houston Texans. He was placed on injured reserve in August with a shoulder injury.
Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson II took to social media to share a prayer for Boyd.
Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety. Lord I ask that you please just get him through this safely. In your name, Amen🙏🏾
