Link and Zelda are making their royal debut.

Nintendo game director, producer, and game director Shigeru Miyamoto posted a series of first-look photos from the upcoming Legend of Zelda live-action adaptation on Monday, showcasing Bo Bragason as the Hylian princess and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as her ever-loyal knight.

"This is Miyamoto. Filming is underway for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda in a lush, natural setting, with Bo Bragason-san who will play Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san who will play Link," an accompanying statement read. "Filming is on track for the film's release on May 7, 2027."

It continued, "It will take a while until the release, so we would be grateful if you would wait patiently and look forward to it."

The images see Zelda and Link sitting together in a sprawling green field. Bragason's Zelda can be seen dressed in a blue tunic with a quiver of arrows strapped to her back, while Ainsworth's Link is dressed in his signature green tunic. The master sword, however, does not appear to be along for the journey just yet.

While details surrounding the film's plot remain firmly under wraps, its director, Wes Ball, previously told Entertainment Weekly that he hopes to transform The Legend of Zelda into an "awesome fantasy-adventure movie" that can stand on its own among other beloved franchises like The Lord of the Rings.

"I've always said, I would love to see a live-action [Hayao] Miyazaki," Ball said, referencing the legendary Japanese animator and filmmaker. "That wonder and whimsy that he brings to things, I would love to see something like that."

He promised at the time that the project is going to be "really special," too. "My whole life has led up to this moment," Ball said. "I grew up on Zelda and it is the most important property, I think, that's untapped IP, if you will. So we very much are working hard to do something."
