George Clooney still hasn't gotten over the time that Francis Ford Coppola thought he was drunk in an audition.
At the *Jay Kelly* premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Clooney reminisced on his "terrible audition" for Coppola's 1992 horror film *Bram Stoker's Dracula. *
"I had a terrible audition for — and this will make you laugh — Francis Ford Coppola," Clooney told * *on the red carpet. "I thought I was very good in the audition. I called my agent and I said, 'How'd it go?' And they said they just got the message back from Francis Ford Coppola, and he thought I was drunk. Which I was not, but that cuts. That hurt."
George Clooney was told, 'You're going to be the next Batman,' after this 'ER' episode aired

George Clooney recalls his 'Golden Girls' stint, and the show's star who made him 'laugh harder than anybody'

Clooney laughed as he added, "I was just very relaxed. I was on Percodan."
This is not the first time Clooney put himself on blast for bombing this audition. He first told this story back in 2016, at the time saying that he went Method for the audition by getting drunk to play a drunk character. However, he now says he "was not" actually drunk during the audition.

Coppola produced and directed the gothic horror drama in 1992 from James V. Hart's script based on Stoker's 1897 novel. While *ER* alum Clooney did not end up landing a part in it, the movie starred Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves, Richard E. Grant, and Cary Elwes.
Meanwhile, Clooney is currently starring in *Jay Kelly* as the titular aging A-list movie star who goes on a journey of self-discovery across Europe with his devoted manager (Adam Sandler). The movie was written and directed by Noah Baumbach, and opens in select theaters Nov. 14 before streaming on Netflix on Dec. 5.

Clooney and Sandler's time working together on *Jay Kelly* has already had a lasting effect, as Clooney motivated Sandler to ditch his infamously casual and baggy clothes for a more chic look at recent red carpet events.
"I've actually been making Adam wear suits," Clooney said in October. "Don't you think he looks nicer instead of those big baggy shorts?"
