Alex Rodriguez and his ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis are opening up about what led to the end of their marriage.
In the second episode of HBO's docuseries Alex vs ARod, the former baseball star, 50, and Scurtis, 52, reflect on Rodriguez's past infidelity — including his rumored affair with Madonna in 2008. Rodriguez's first accusation of cheating on his wife happened in 2007 when he was caught with a mystery woman in Toronto.
Scurtis said on the doc that her ex "seemed to be extremely apologetic and not proud of his actions" after the incident in Toronto, which happened shortly after the couple welcomed their first daughter, Natasha, in November 2004.

But not long after the arrival of their second daughter, Ella, in April 2008, "a very similar scenario" happened, Scurtis said on the docuseries, which displayed a New York Post headline at the time suggesting the baseball star and singer, who was married to Guy Ritchie at the time, were more than friends.
"At that point, we got divorced," Scurtis revealed.
Scurtis filed for divorce in 2008, alleging in court papers that her ex-husband had "emotionally abandoned" her and their children and had a series of affairs. Her lawyer also said Rodriguez had an "affair of the heart" with Madonna that was the "last straw."
A-Rod maintained that he and the singer were just friends, however, while talking to PEOPLE at the time. "I've been to two [of her] concerts, yet I've read that I went to 20. I've also read that we were buying an apartment together. That is absolutely ridiculous and not true," he said.
"You have to have a sense of humor when it comes to this stuff," Rodriguez added.

At the time, a representative for Madonna told PEOPLE, "Madonna and Alex have the same manager, Guy Oseary. They have met. They know each other and Madonna took her kids to a Yankees game last week. There's really not anything to comment on beyond that."
On the HBO docuseries, Scurtis said she knew that her ex "had his own demons" and was "hoping he would get help...and that it could end differently than it did."
Scurtis described Rodriguez as "really upset" about their divorce, adding that his reaction affected her, "but at the same time, I think I felt a sense of freedom."
Rodriguez addressed the alleged affairs as well, saying in hindsight that he "could have been more loyal" and a better husband to Scurtis during their marriage. "I could have been more present. I could have been more sympathetic, empathetic, all of it. You name it."
Currently, Rodriguez is dating Jaclyn Cordeiro. They were first linked in October 2022 and made their relationship Instagram official two months later.
