The producer for Joaquin Phoenix's gay romance spoke out after the actor abandoned the film. Killer Films' Christine Vachon took to Facebook on Friday to confirm the Oscar winner had abruptly exited the Todd Haynes-directed project just five days before filming was due to commence in Mexico. 'A version of this did happen, it has been a nightmare,' Vanchon wrote in a since-deleted post, per People. Vachon, who has collaborated with Haynes since his 1991 debut feature Poison, also defended Killer Films' decision to cast the heterosexual Phoenix in a gay role, emphasizing that the entire project was allegedly spearheaded by Phoenix himself.
